FLL Crusties vs Japanese

Do you have tons of done up figures waiting to strut upon the stage? I do. I kept buying figures, vehicles doing up teams. Waiting for the rules to catch up. Well I did start this blog ‘cos we were picked to playtest Harder Than Steel.   Go on, inna minute zoom back down.

I’ve got UN. Light, heavy & superheavy power armour infantry plus a few light vehicles and about a dozen plastics waiting to be converted. I know they’re in the flat somewhere. Got to be-.

So my biggest collection is GZG Japanese. Had a load of the old stuff that I’ve used as a police force.

The new’s divided into 2 (like most of mine) a rural force and this smaller urban, of which this is the heavy weapons teams. I’ve even got some APC’s & IFV from Anatochi’s workshop’s short lived 15mm range.

For both I did weapon teams, both set up and being carried – the idea of the set-up team space- hopping across the board-.

I got some Brigade light vehicles a couple of years ago and Japanese power armour when it came out. Both got relegated (I’m sure there’s more vehicles-) to the WIP mountain to get a speed painting rough job.

I’m doing this watching the D Day commemoration. We are watching the US sink into totalitarianism as it loses its place in the world community. The UK is giving up its last vestige of the Empire, sinking back into a little island with a funny currency and (hopefully) tourism. The debt we owe is immense. The peace and prosperity that followed is being eroded.

Still, let’s crack on!  Which I did.  What you see here in full is copied, pasted and cut down to be printed out as a playsheet.  I did a basic error, cut n pasted not copied and pasted.  Didn't realise until I'd removed all the points, etc.  I was going to redo, but that would take me time I don't have at the moment.  I've learnt that you have to do these soon after play or you forget the details.

The Game Tony took the crusties and won the initiative.

He came steaming down so fast I had no choice but to debus a bit sharpish.  Here an APC disgorges its mortar section.

Tony's HW gets set up to cover the central area.

2 power armour mistake -. but they advance quick.

Here they come!  Perhaps we should get Swatters-.

Tony's HW teams stayed at the back ready to move up in support of their faster brethren.

Power armour escorts APC.

Tucked in-.

A nasty, brief exchange and Tony's protected suffer some disorder, but they wipe out most of my power armour.

An infantry buzz bomb smacks down a walker.

A bit of nifty reversing back into cover away from another pesky walker.

Long range peppering of my infantry.

"They they are, get 'em!"  Open ground and supported fire diminishes the attackers.

Get that gun!

One left, effectiveness reduced.

Mortar takes out remaining power armour.

Protected infantry assault, but are repulsed with casualties.

Another walker moves into support.

Infantry repulsed, a walker moves in.

The Japanese have a classic L shaped killing ground, note the bodies-.

APC takes out walker, but pays the price.

Survivors do a runner.

Last surviving walker closes on my unit, blowing the infantry away with all its anti-personnel weapons.

The APC gets stunned, then manages to recover & do a quick reverse.

Specialist unit deploys, but gets steam rolled by the protected infantry.

Missile armed APC makes a long dash and takes out the walker.

Scratch one unit-.

The Crusties have broken through the trap and roll up my forces.

A few get away, but not many-.

Another gets brewed-.

This pile refused to move the whole game-.

That worked.  Japanese.  Power armour needs larger units.  Small units just melt. APC's were spot on.  Crusties.  Protected infantry just took everything.  They lost a few, suffered pushbacks but did most of the work.  Walkers are eggshells armed with sledgehammers.  This force needs vehicles!

I'd like to thank all the WW2 vets.

My parents, my patient wife.

Tony, Tony's parents.

Sally n all their brats n the next generation of squawking rages.
