OGAM v OAAH 1) OGAM goes to Hell 2


Dai- Oni gets stoned.

Back in the smog of time we did a Hell of an OGAM game. I've wanted to redo it for a while and it occurred to me that we'd never compared OAAH and OGAM, so that seems the right thing to do, particularly as we were flogging OGAM for all it's worth as a fantasy set. Well, it is, but you know-.





OGAM size limits.  Now I'm trying to compare, so a large OGAM game will give a small/medium OAAH.  Normal size limit is through the Legends.  You can have up to 5 and this must represent no more than 1/3 of your force.  In the new game I've upped the legends and beefed up the mortals.

The forces & scenery.

I took the Japanese, lost the toss, so set the scenery.  This was 2-6 bits, the central pyramid that was the objective and one whole piece of shrubbery.







Move 1.  I get to add a unit on the objective, every other unit is placed in turn, not within 1 long of the objective.

Hades & Gorgons.  There's a box somewhere with these in.  I just didn't find it.  Big thanks for Minotaur and Harpies for stepping in.

Persephone.  Notin yer official list! Priced as a mounted hero.
Let me set the scene.  Hades flat in hell.  Not the bachelor pad that came with the job.  This one was built to order with guest rooms, en suite and a dining room capable of seating all Olympus polite society. Looks like something out of a 1920's Hollywood production.  A central fire pit, nice frescoes and glowing torches on the walls.  In a corner Spot chews on somebody's bones.  Hades sits at a desk, checking quotas, monthly reports, costings and other devilish documents that reveal the detail.  Persephone reclines of a nice imported sofa, impatiently waiting for beauty salons and magazines to be invented.

"I want my own chariot!  I'm not letting you NEAR some oriental bitch on your own!"
"Of course dear, a standard model, bleach bone and black appears".  A pout, a stomp.  Spot decides to take himself a walk, quietly gets up and sneaks out.

Eventually a nice Minoan blue and the latest shade of pink is agreed on.  Accessories are added.




The Game
The Hydra came on strong and willing, obviously aiming for the objective.  I countered with Spiderwoman, who got stomped.

Note in OGAM the combat keeps going until one side withdraws or gets destroyed.


Oh hell - Hydra!





Persephone is impatient.



My Oni steps up- a draw, both destroyed!





The other flank is quiet, too quiet.



My slow moving infantry actually advance, but not into contact.


The Objective is objectified!  Stheno, armourer so the best fighter, moves in with flying Euryale in support.  Hah!  But I roll a 1 for combat.  Panic!  Check rules, no probs, just need to pass a Q test.  Another 1.  My Dai Oni has turned to stone.  He's a stiffy.  Bereft of life he's home to pidgeons.





Meanstwhile, the skellies crash and mine get the worst of it, pushed back and pummeled.



Not to be undone, the Hydra hurts my archers.




Now the winged women start to move-.



The spider comes a-calling.


Eurale swoops down on it, but gets webbed and sucked dry.



as the models are fairly similar, it helps to tell 'em apart.


Rushing to support, shoot the Hydra!



Spider likes the taste, so scuttles up the objective on the chittering hunt.


Don't roll a 1.  Don't roll a 1.  Nope a draw, both die.  It's getting crowded up there.



Izunami loses her patience.


But Hades is coming on strong.



Take that! She gets pushed back, he gets pushed back, but goes eventually.  It was close!






My skellies get a good set of rolls, move back out of the way.  Look inconspicuous lads!


Crunch!




Damn, she's dead!  Skellies don't do morale, but my remaining Oni goes back one move.


Embarrassed, he moves forward and slams into the enemy.



That crunched them, even got a couple of hammer blows in!  Now there's those pesky archers and Medusa-.




Darn-.



Izunami comes back on the other flank.  An unengaged unit of 4 can roll, exceed 3 and the god is re-invoked.


Tony starts to assemble on the objective.


Remember my poor infantry looking inconspicuous?  'ee only goes and slaughters them!


All gone-


Up-



Medusa, last of the Gorgons, attacks Izunami.  Pushes her back, but dies.



The archers lose 2 from being too close to a Gorgon.


You shall not pass!


Clash, and flash!  A draw produces a blast of awe.


Take that!  Rewenge-san!


What! Behind me!  It takes 2 actions to remove Awe, hence the white dice.


And Slap!


Charges up hill, but gets pushed back!  For some reason, they don't followup.



I'm back!



That failure set the end.


All of Tony's remaining head for the objective chased slowly by mine.




Hah, I have the higher ground!  Slaughter!






Not again!






Quick, shuffle!




Got you!  And from behind as well-.



Pop!  all Tony's uphill.  I don't have enough left to take it-.


Get out of my way!



Dead again, I can keep coming back, but not able to take the objective!


What a fun game!  Bit wonky on the rules, but soon came back.  We thought it would be a quick one, but 3 hours, not bad.

Now exactly the same, only different!
