RS Hunting Martian Tigers in the Maris Piper foothills.

Clever Girl.

"In the Piper, the Mighty Piper, the Tiger feasts tonight"!

Hunting the Martian Tiger is best left to the foolhardy and the heroic. Normally a solitary ambush hunter of the high steppes, they come down and show minimal cooperation only during the seasonal migrations in the Maris Piper region.

The tigers are one of the few predators that will hunt Martians, so the hunter can become the hunted.

Space 1899"  The steppe tiger, through an electrostatic charge whose exact mechanisms are still poorly understood, its fur attracts the sand and dust around it, providing the tiger with a camouflage pattern matching its current environment. The camouflage is so sophisticated that when lurking the creature is virtually undetectable, while its movement is a blur that often appears little more than a whirlwind of color and dust. It is a popular topic of debate among scholars whether this feature is a natural development, or if the Canal Builders' breeding programs had something do to with it."

I decided to use a different ID method.  These have 1-4 tufts.

Figures.  Splintered Light Dark Elves & Brigade models nasty big beasties.

The Game.  I took the Tigers and defended, being the hunted.  We used a simple method of deployment.   I  rolled for starting location with 5 dice, so one's a "dud".  On actions/reactions.  I roll for the dice - if no success that's the dud and I've lost it- treated as same as a figure.

Tony's all on and so am I.

Clever girl!

Timely support for the boss.

Up-.

Down.

Sticking your head around a corner is always a good idea.

Down and wounded.

He needs a medic, but a pointy stick is ideal first aid.

Clobbered!

You have to play beasts as they would react.  No sentient would dash out faced by 3 crossbow--.

F suffers a broken descrimulator flange and scarpers bag from the jaws of doom to affect repairs.

The wounded proves to be irresistable.

Ghastly crunching and gobbling noises.

He's behind you!

Armour helps but he's down & wounded.

Shooting causes the tigers to withdraw and reorganise, getting rid of pins.

Now where's he going?

Area secured?  A lull, time to help the wounded?

Hah!  Beat you!  Mine!

Drat!  I'll have that one! Bites arm off-.

Nom nom nom-.

This one's still wriggling!

Hang on!  I have a crossbow- if I keep trying I might just hit something!

Yep!

But that's it -  I've lost 2 and the rest are happy feeding-.  The 2 survivors (leader & crossbow) retreat to tell their tall tails.

Game 2 swapsies.

Tony uses same deployment method as before.  I'm on and not giving him any reactions.

Well there's one and "pop".

And another, but I'm a solid mass-.

Aaand chomp!

One down-.

And 2-.

Chase it off!

It's an ambush predator, that's the leader.  "Mostly headless".

Getting in the revenge.

But there's a smell of blood in the air--.

Sent packing.

Rest, consolidate & remove pins.

Tony considered that they would drag their prey away to eat in peace.

The hunt is still on.

Never be at the front.  Never be in the rear.

Crossbow gets a reaction, does a runner!

The heavy just loses it, mostly in the head region.  Always wear the helmet!

K is attacked, but now it's his turn!

Now, you didn't want to roll that--.

Good ones!  That method of  placing on-table troops works.  Do try it!
