Rogue Stars. High Crusade 2

"They are animals!  I thought that by surrendering we could win them over".  He shuddered.  "They had trade and slavery, it had worked so many times before."  Pause.  "Our dead, they roasted them!  Ate them!"  He struggled to control himself, madness bubbled close to the surface.  "What was worse, they discovered our wing bones are hollow, so they took them and made musical instruments out of them!"  When they captured the last two Redshirts they took one up a tower and threw him off, to see if he could fly.  Of course he couldn't but that big leader shot him through the groin on the way down.  He was still alive when they impaled him for roasting."  He indicated where his wings had been.  "They them apart in front of me.  Then they started on me, removing my wings bone by bone.  They cut the membrane first, piece by piece, cooking and eating each bit like it was some delicacy.  They, they took each bone carefully.  The questions "Why are you here?  How far had we come?  The size and capability of our ship?" He shuddered again.  "Then the female leader, she led the questions, talked to the big brute leader."  His body shook in memory. "Oh there's been such a mistake! You resemble an evil spirit!  We like your offer!  There is a city, controlling a major trade route.  If we could take them there, they would start supplying us with a regular supply of slaves and any other resources we desired."

The Redshirt leader was unable to answer.  "Look, you need to rescue those in the hold, it's mostly women and a few lower ranks.  The aliens don't know about the cargo transporters but no-one in there has the codes.  You must save these people!"  The officer collected his emotions.  "What about eggs and children?"  There was no reply.

The Game.  I did this scenery a few years ago, 1st used as Hades.  I think it does an excellent job as a cargo hold.  I took the invaders and set up on one base line with a clear doorway.  Seeing them as not that organised, I diced for locations along that line.

Made sense for the attacking crew to start.

Good rolling got them moving.  I guess they'd be familiar with the hold.

One of mine spots movement.  Never having seen a movie he moves cautiously forward to investigate.

He waves at an archer, who runs to join him.

Something going to happen----

Contact centre!

And flank!

The archer fumbles and pays for it with his life!

But in his victory he fails to see the servant, who shots him down.

The other archer had been stalking the other flank -  now---. the hunter becomes the hunted who is also hunted by the hunter.

Spearman uses SOP. runs up and throws javelin in the aliens face!  He goes down wounded.

But like a true professional, he shoots his opponent dead from the deck and makes for cover.

In quick succession. the other archer goes down, a shot to the head at point blank will usually do it.

First aid all round, the leader charges in.  Long pointy stick good in this situation. Jay is gone.

Caw is in position to do some sniping.

The servant goes down.

More spear poking.

With the leader dead, the surviving spearman runs.

T'was a close run thing.  Just because a weapon is primitive, it's still effective!

A note on Dendle armour.  Bronze, being made of 2 conductive metals, held on a harness of non conductive leather and cloth padding would be effective against energy weapons, reflecting and spreading the impact.
