Of Gods And Mortals, Walking through our First Egyptians

Last year or so Splintered Light have hit the Fantasy Egyptian trail pretty hard.
Several kickstarters.  Amazingly, unlike other more toy related scales, once the kick starter has finished - you can buy the figures!  I know!  Revolutionary!  Others like Battle Valour do the same!

Now this one:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFp_1vk01K4

First such was the Scarabs.  Ok, bit of a problem there - which god?  So I went with Thoth.

I got these great dung beetles from RPE.  Excellent kit, went together so well - yes, you get a ball of dung!  Did it during a spurt of hot, humid not-sleeping weather.  Then our Tony informs me, with certain smug glee, t'will be noted, that the damn things push ass first---.

So as a Legend I did them Q4 and added a team of handlers - "go left- ram speed!"

Quick mention of terrain - last seen last week, quick slap of tester pot - another cheap paint on base.  That's it, no undercoat.  Result is that it throws the light around the table.  Good result!

Quite pleased with the way this foam takes chalk.

I also added on a whim the steaming
treats of the bizarre in the old town.

During Lockdown the UK importer of Aegyptus offered a discount on orders so he could fill his minimum purchase.  No problem, good offer - so I got a lorra lorra gods.

The Game.
Tony took Osiris and after a dramatic reroll won the initiative.  Bugger, that hampered my inital "devious strike" plan.

The way deployment works (as mentioned last week) you can deploy anywhere, rotating turns until all placed.

So wot was my devious plan you cry?  Well, of my gossips,  Thoth can whip it up upon start?  Well, t'was to replace 2 legends, so his was in a pincer plus another legend or mortal for a bit of preemptive revenge.

But he was in a bit tight with that god - except for on my right.

Ready for the "pop".

One Pharaoh, one careful owner, full MOT.

But- Tony had the initiative so Nuff (gets 3 dammit) does a hand break turn, shoots the spearmen as he passes, a recoil.

Thoth hops to it and smites him down.

Back to my stolen flank.  The superior axemen were supposed to trounce the archers mightily - but they lost!  Forcing my beetle to go wide.

General shoots my big bitey poky bug with a 6:1!

My troops surge forward towards the sound of the monotonous chanting:

"Get that bug!"

My nicked flank is attracting a lot of unwarranted attention!  The dung is about to hit the khepesh.

Meanstwhile upon the other flank ol' bones has got a bee about my bugs.

Well I could -

Oooh look, he has descended from amongst high and does, on account of 5, does verily smite amongst them.

For it is said that they are nougat in his site.

But Yea! Thoth comes!

Rolls for initiative -

That means Osiris can power up and pounce!  Walloping Thoth with his big dangly.

Mine do the go in reverse and reform mode.

Rolls for initiative - Again!

Where did everyone go?  Time for praying and clean loincloths - there's a dirty great god over there!

Pop!  He's back!

Now if only undead reacted!

Axes vs mummies, for once I win.

That damn general again.  He rolls a 6, has +2 combat, +1 vs large target and uses all 3 successes to give himself +2.  +11.  _ roll a 3 and have +4 =7.  Difference of 4.  3 is required to kill.  Think about it, there's one vulnerable spot he can see and getting to a vulnerable bit its got to bounce off the inside of the shell----.

Archers advance, got retreats.

Meanstwhile, my poor beetle get run over by mummies! Axes get axed!  That's a bit like
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnCuwpnwscE

Now!  Do It Now!  Thoth flattens the General and my spear begin a ding-dong with the mummies.

There should have been smoke & flames.  All chariots burst into flames!

Pesky Osiris has rounded the horn and pounces on my spear.

Push and shove.

Then Thoth piles in, the spear in contact adds +1.

Pushed back.

Winning is good, but enemies gather in their masses.

Twit, I followed up and paid the price.

Well, that got those spear out of there.

Up! - this is getting monotonous.

And-  back.  Now all my focus is on guarding my remnant infantry.

Oh look, the transposed archers finally move.

Damn!  White dice is from invoking, this is why you use different coloured dice.  2 reactions for Osiris but not a turn over.

That gets Thoth to the archers but only into contact.  So I roll for the spear.  1 success and 2 fails.  Again into contact but no fight.

As only in contact, the archers can retire without a free hack.  If you take all 3 as near simultaneous.

Osiris heads into cover and here they come-.

Shoo!

Turn over plus reaction.  Oh good.

Here he comes again.

A clash, one less 4 group.

For once Thoth gets the edge and Osiris crashes down.  The hordes of the undead look at each other, shrug, and carry on. I can (hopefully) get my remnant off.

That went well!  Numbers count.  Mortals count as they enpower gods.  Thus cheap mortals very good.

You can make out the playing surface if you squint.

I had hoped to put more paint on the gods, but it wasn't to be.
