Of Gods And Mortals More Greek!

Yes, I'm using Hera again. I think I've the "handle" on her now. Part laziness, part the bleep hot weather. We had one short, sharp shower - some of that got to the ground but the rest was like poring water on the coals in a shower. What was already humid went off the chart. That didn't help my hand or breathing.

OK, ok, I know - I've a wee bit of painting to do. Another few years of lockdown should do it-. Paint or game? Sort of a life/work balance.

The game. I've made bit of a hash of the pictures and I'm doing this a couple of weeks after play. Hopefully I can get the feel of the game, which was a real stand up fight!

Dionysus's chariots are not the type to hang back so they charge in recklessly!

One takes advantage of a transfixed foe.

Hera does the Tremble before my might trick, awing a flank.

Hera takes out the knocked down the Silenos hero.

The flank starts to recover.

Drunken shrubbers is useful to mop up transfixed foes.

Dionysus gets handbagged.

He's soon up and the shrubbery makes a nuisance.

Hera retreats, leaving the spear to take the brunt.

Meanstwhile Ajax and Idomeneus of Crete take on a chariot.

Another handbagging send some into flight.

Crump!

Hera does another Tremble.

Awed works both ways.

"She's behind you!"

Menelaus is downed, up then crushed!

He's back!

The chariots are grinding away.

Ajax is pushed back and is replaced, relief arrives for the spear.

One chariot destroyed and one unit de-awed joins in.

Smackdown!

Another handbagging!

Followed by another Tremble!

Ganging up!

Knocked down, tripped, by shrubbery, then up on reaction then trounced!

He's back!

Not good.

He gets trounced again!

Hera's forces start to pick off the remainers.

Crash and push back.

But that works both way.

He's back and joining in.

Bundle!  Well it seemed at a good idea.

Trying the tripping trick on Hera didn't work.

And again - that's it.  His forces are too dispersed or engaged.

Sorry the pics got mashed.  Technology & my computer not liking hot weather.

Artemis vs Hermes.

Some groups concentrate on one game. While we shuttle around the Ganesha spectrum

(insert picture here of Captain Scarlet astride elephant stood on its hind feet)

OGAM is pretty much our favourite. And of all yer panwotsits, it's always going to be Greek.

We only occasionally dip into the in-book scenarios.  P 44 Spring of Youth.

Todays game is brought to you by these teacakes.  Not good, not the best after too long in the fridge.

I did 3 versions of the layout.  Using dice to determine position.  First one got rejected 'cos we didn't play due to heat.  Second one I stripped down the terrain size.  With each a marker was added, one with an "X".

Now here's the thing.  'cos of further restrictions added by the scenario space was really limited and placing forces a real problem.  We do long from nearest enemy (instead of 2 medium)  and a medium from the scenery.

Just fit in 2 here -

'cos I stuck me big nasty right up front-

The flank being pregnant with forces sees the first moves.

Rock thrower vs archers sees them sent back.

Hermes troops push forward in the centre.

Now the legends - manoeuvre.  Cyclops sees off Amazon.

Puddy tat discovers the sauce!

Artemis's forces not doing well.

Hermes goes to ridiculous speed and whacks her gone!

With her gone, it's the flank that suffers losses!

All that open space now-

And she's back!  And in range Hermes, your turn--.

Now it's his turn to be reduced.

Now the remaining 4's are getting to be important.

He's back, with a smack and a push back.

Follow up - frantic support then more interference.

Down one legend - and one god.

Back to the legends.

Wolves vs wings, doesn't go well.

These cyclops fend the lion off, doing far better than you'd expect.

He's back, but smacking into the big brute--

Hermes tries a more suitable delivery.

Ganging up on the brute works.

Sides seemed easily matched.

Artemis cannot miss - but giving Hermes an out and he's deep in shrubbery!

Get that legend!

Rats!  Tied result, I lose a wolf!

And again, Hermes gets shafted.

That leaves Hermes with 1 x 4, and Artemis with 5 archers.  Both 1 legend left -

Hermes last 4 reduced by an arrow. That's it, game over!

Game 2 Swapsies! - With a moral at the end.   We so enjoyed that - it was such a good match, that we decided to redo.  Todays game is brought to you by a better selection that last time.
Different layout gives different deployment solutions.

Good start!

Time for an "end run."

That solid block of spear is the centre of the action.

On the flanks cyclops vs the Lion.

Wolves dash in like light cavalry.

Right, send the hero into their flank to even things up, then the harpy-.  Never give a Cyclops a Cunning Plan.

So that failure causes the rock-throwers to be shoved back then the harpy gets bitten!

Hermes hides & checks out sites as he goes.

Another general advance on the other flank.

Lion shoved back, Artemis wades in, then the lion again.  These are as cheap a figure as you can get--.

Meanstwhile -

Knocked down then savaged!

Face off.

This flank is thoroughly invested.

Long shot by big nasty!  When faced by a rock throwing Cyclops always get your revenge in first.

The assault on the block begins.

Artemis lays a legend low.

This flank has been hanging on, making a brew.  But now Hermes hops in.

Risky smackdown.

And then hiding mode.

He sneaks in a get shoved back!

Ouch.  Dead Dear!

The field opens up.

Oh crap!  I pawt I saw a puddy cat!

Damn those wolves are good!

Shooting and pelting!

Still they keep going!

Cor look, a line!

Violence Against Venison. While the rest surge forward.

Jumped!

Still wolves in the game!

Hermes starts in on the Amazons, but as they're 5's no real damage done. - This time.

Rats.

And she's back, but 1 failure gives Hermes a reaction and he hides from her piercing arrows.

Oh yes, there's the pool-.

Dashes in, bounced off!  That's dangerous!  Another handover-.

She dashes in, but gets whacked by his caduceus.

Ooh close!

Here's the moral lesson.  Here 5 Amazons end up in the woods.  Hermes dashes in - and gets thoroughly beaten!  The morale?  Don't chase bow armed young ladies in the woods while wearing a short tunic.

A tie.  Amazons lose 1.  Hermes can turn that into a push back if he makes a Q roll of 2+.  A 1.  He's dead!  Cannot remember a game with both gods gone!

Artemis still has one legend and a "4" left so she can return.  Game over!
