Rogue Stars Captain Slog vs (the) Khan!

 Any similarity betwix this and any other long established series is, of course, purely coincidental.

I bought a fair number of this range when it came out. Lately I've been toying with doing "something"Big Trouble in Little China/Ming the slightly miffed sort of thing--. And yes, a decent repaint. Wot do you want? Painting, playing or blogging? I try for a balance. Don't get it-.

A minion runs up and shoots. Just being in pistol range (we may use 15/20mm but we use the normal movement & ranges) And I roll a 2.  Captain Slog has been cut down!



Fones stabilises him and a Redcoat drags him a safe distance to the rear.



Redshirt officer Gort gets it next from the minion and Fones leaps to the rescue.


Science officer uses logic and fast heels to get out of the aim of the advancing Han horde.


Which leaves the rescue party as the outstanding targets.


Not to be undone, Flashblade surges forward.


Shot at close range, rolling a 1 - the redshirt succumbs.


Now Fones is down & wounded. 


Turnover, the beasts advance:


One goes for the newly dead redshirt.  You have to use logic with these situations.  Bock finishes his opponent, but is wounded in the process.


Down boy!  Yes, another 1.



Now Fones is wounded and down,  Bock is finished off!



Ouch!  Fones is now captured and the Captain has returned, wounded.  How will a rescue be mounted!  Red =b stress. Yellow pin. 


Meanstwhile in a galaxy just to the right- I used the same forces at Matt Hay's Wednesday group.  I was shocked to find that young Barry has knees!  I took a few pics.  No, not the knees!  For that way lies madness.  I have a picture of that.  OK, video.  Shut it! I did a bit of painting.  Not finished, but one more step along the line.

Game 1.  When you need 8---.

Matt's group uses dice by figure as opposed to counters on sheet.  Yellow for pin, blue for stress & red for wounds.



We'd commented on how these wee persons can take on a character of their own.  In this game the redshirt Jiro failed every single dice roll.


In the end he got cut down!


Game 2.  Swapsies.  The vortex of doom from which eyes stares back---.



Redshirts CAN shoot!  Plus Barry shows me that there ARE 20's on the dice!  My poor chap loses an arm to the first shot then a hole in his chest!


The effect - Flashblade fails the morale test dramatically and routes!  Gets about 1/2 way to the base line.  My leader dashes to stop him, but he gives away a reaction.  Barry uses it to take the initiative - and he's gone and my leader is where I don't want him - in the open.


I got my leader (centre) into cover but now they're facing shooting from each flank.


A round of shooting puts mine on the deck.



I got one!


Initiative change and corpses get dragged towards the dread mawl.  Is there any worse fate then that of being eaten by a sucking pussy of doom?


My leader had manoeuvred to get a clear shot, but that in turn made him a target.


He gets back, but cover from one side means no cover from the other.  A redshirt runs up and shoots him in the back of the head--



Game 2.  Perceived wisdom in past navies is that small ground actions are a good training ground for the Midshipman, 3rd Leftenant or similar in order for them to shine or remove themselves from the officer pool.

As the Khan Keptain's Kruiser goes to Improbable speed, Captain Slog is undergoing emergency surgery under the care of pretty nurses.  Finally the Cops give chase, following the - ion- trail left by a shipload of people bunging all their waste out the back.

The trail leads to Santa 7, an iceball shithole in the back of beyond 42.

Of course they get there just in the nick of time!  Before the evil doers can secrete the good doctor into the bowels of their complex.

Flashblade, doctor and Khan.


More coffee and wide arms.  I'd numbered the building in case of hidden deployment. 


White cloak & Zum.


With a "Tinkle, tinkle, tinkle" the cops arrive.



My dice rolling has improved--.


At exactly 8" range (we adjust grenades, but nothing else for 15mm) the Khan nails the poor redshirt.  His officer runs up and then he tries moving to cover - and fails.




A shot rings out, then a running firefight--.

Jiro rushes up to return fire, but gets shot by Whitecloak from the flank.  Halo is next, knocking down Whitecloak.

The ensign rushes in but gets shot in the gut by Whitecloack despite being on the deck.



Oh no!  The vortex has done taken the biscuits!


Meanstwhile running in shootin' 'n slashing gets nowhere- 


The Captain Slog runs in, all hollerin' 'n shooting 'n missing.  But Khan doesn't miss and he's down & staggered.



Brave redcoat finally shoots someone at point blank.  Then he drags the Captain into cover.



Hiro tries up close & personal.


Doing good---


Jiro gets cut down by Zed.  A 2.


Whiteclock has recovered, well done those nanodes.  Stabs Hiro.


Morale -  The Captain dies of his wounds.  Ooops - first aid--.


Wounded is not out, Whitecoat goes down!


A difficult shot but the Khan makes it.  Another one gone!  More morale and the ensign also dies!
