Rogue Stars The Shining Angels of Doom!

I'm being sneaky - I found these Battle Valor God infantry, bought with a kickstarter, I'd painted 16 of the things during the down time and promptly forgot them.

The crystal forest "blooms" were a lucky find of a cheap, withdrawn toy from a now defunct store.

The main problem in an unplanned, unstructured campaign is that it can spiral out of control.  Too much control will kill it dead.  Achieve balance!  I've long planned an Oz campaign and I don't want to corrupt that.  This may be a step too far and heading down a wabbit 'ole.  Likewise, the effect of an imprisoned Ms Goethe on Martian understanding of Earth needs careful handling.  So far, my thoughts are getting away from my imposed "no new painting" rule.  I'm sort of running out of steam, must be the season.  Watch this space.

This week we are enjoying a fitting bounty.

I have my booster (finally!)  tomorrow, so planning on Wednesday saying "Owwww" a lot.  So I need to rush Thursday on a Monday.  Saaavy?

Plus I've never done a robot force!  Damn, I need a villain!

Deep, deep in the Lunar bowels there are caverns where the dead reside.  Long ago mere bacteria were vanquished, so it's the fungus and plants do the bulk of the work.  And the grubs.  Grubs that will form cocoons from which a fully formed Selinite will one day emerge.

A strange sound is heard and there, in the shadows stands a new plant from which emerge the shimmering shapes of nightmare.

Where do these strange things come from?  Remnants of some long lost civilisation found in their long forgotten tomb.  Not soldiers, more police or bodyguards.  Do they mimic their creators or mere artistic fancy?

There there is their new master.  A strange robed figure forever in the shadows.  Probing, manipulating and scheming for some long term gain.

This is a version of mission 12/13 Rescue mission.  The monk and his minions seek the doctors body, to retrieve it.  Location Insect hive 17.  Complication 12 Something's in the air.

I used these spiders as the hive denizens.  They're a freebee with Alternative Armies orders this month!

There are 6 clumps, 6 random counters, 1 with an X to represent the target body.  The angels must reach & spend an activation to search.

Shining Angels.  Mercenaries  Retain the initiative.   Taking initiative at -2
Monk & 5 angels 205

Meddling Monk Alert.  Difficult target (suit)   Leader.  Robo tech. Tech. Stealth
14 Total 30
Stealth Suit  Arms/Legs 1 Head/Torso 2  12  Camo.  Sealed.
Vibroblade 3  4

Angel.  Artificial.  Non reactive.  Weapon master  7 Total 35
Flight Pack 6
Combat dress Arms/Legs 3 Head/Torso 4  18
Vibroblade 3  4

All Selinites are the pistol and blade variant.

The Game.  Angels tread where others would fear, searching for the body of the doctor.

As per usual, the locals enter on reaction then get personal.

A scuffle, ganging up.  The Selinite suffers a wound and a pin.  The heavy, caustic atmosphere in the chamber "gets in" and causes 2 more wounds.

Turnover, the creatures move.  Curiously several "get there" but do not fight.  Perhaps the artificial nature of the adversary confuses them?

Selinites swarm, blasts and blades lick out from the confusing brawl.

They attempt to surround and contain.

Other angels and their master search on, regardless.

Selinite blasters let loose, but miss.

An angel is recalled as bodyguard.

Careful not to trigger the denizens, an angel finds the body!

At last a blaster hits!  The monk and the angel carrying the body approach their, um, plant.

Two angels perform a rearguard, taking on the capable shooter.

Turnover, the demizens move & fight.

Another confused melee forms around the rear guard.  Red = sitting target.

One of the rearguard retreats, the last one proves well able to slice Selinites.  Once damaged, the atmosphere finishes them off.

More wee beasties turn up as the bodies pile up.

The last of the Selinites attempt to stop the withdrawal of the angels.

Ouch!  Was the atmosphere already killing this one?

Fighting for the spoils.

An angel succumbs to a long shot.

Leaving 1 angel behind, the monk departs with the body.

That was ok, changing the Selinites to all the same sort of worked.  Where to go?  Different rules?
