OAAH Oni Wars 3 - Monks!

Here it is, the last in this "tester" series.  My 301st post! Had some great feedback, thank you for those, always appreciated!

Sorry again for not doing more painting.  As you can see by new scenic items (I can slosh big areas-)  I've had several scenery-not-painting days.

Hot on the kickstarter comes alternative Armies Sengoku buildings.  Love 'em!  of the same high standard as the other fantasy offerings (I'd also recommend)  Deliberately using next to Peter Pig's 2.  They fit well.  PPig's removable roofs are a real help (as you'll see below).  AA's are 4 different.  Get the shutters!  They really make a big difference and will also upgrade my scratchbuilds.

The Game.  Tony took the Monks force, I'm greatly outscouted.  I'd diced for 1 village and 2 hills, Tony placed the rest.  This works.

We got off at a cracking space and the first encounters soon took shape,

Spot the older model that fits in so well-.

Samurai shoot heavies.  I hadn't made them skirmishers so they have to pay for both moves.

Backed up by air mobile Tengu!

Archers outnumbered make tactical retreat.

My small horde takes the knoll, the white dice represents Shugenja changing ground to rough, slowing my heavies.

Duel wielders charge the cavalry.  They have 2 left, cavalry 1, so the cavalry are gone!.

Tengu crear the path, but suffer.  In turn they get shot by my archers.  I think this should be rough ground now-.

Tony attempts to plug his centre.

Brave horde charges my heavies.

Now does this look like a proper wargame or what?

The Abbott takes shelter in the village.

Tony's Samurai do very, very badly and die of embarrassment.

One great advantage of the Peter Pig buildings (not only 2 different roofs, but removable - if you don't stick 'em down) being able to place troops "in" the buildings.

Archers "kill" and capture the Abbott!  If he'd got a reaction that could have been a different story.

The monks charge my Oni and get trumped.

Getting away with the General!

My other archers attempt to rid me of these troublesome monks.  They do well, considering.

Oni trounce monks.

Meanstwhile, the horde is shoved back with great loss.

The Shugenja is out of the way, my horde take a reaction to run screaming downhill at the archers.

The last unit of monks attempt my Oni and win!  Mine bad.

That leaves all Gods Are Bastards to finish 'em off comprehensively.

That brings game 1 to an end.  Our remaining:

Game 2.  You'll never guess what we did next?  Damn!  We're getting predictable!

Tony again gets off to a flying start.  We did a simple dice for initiative.  As before, the small dice marks open terrain turned rough by the General/Abbott/Shugenja.

This rise soon becomes a hot spot.

Archers vs cav, that's what they're for!

Oni take a village.

On the other flank. I'm doing well.

Barrelling through the centre now!

Should have been a done deal, but the Bakemono lose.

Oni only manage to dislodge the cavalry.

Samurai stomp archers.

Airmobile!

Monks vs heavies, that's a crunch.

Hah!  Turnover.

Oni rumble on cavalry before they can get organised.

They failed their activation, but got a a reaction before mine can get organised.

That leaves my Tengu open to attack.

Not expecting much, horde on Oni- and the dice go my way for once!

Abbott turns village into open ground, the plan was-

Leaping, jumping the heavies take on my Tengu who do crap and die.

And on into my poor monks!

One Oni and his demon dawg.

That will be turnover, then.  Samurai attempt All Gods Are Bastards, but he prevails.

That ended that one.  This has been an enjoyable mini series.  I think these are pretty spot on and we can now build adding more diverse units and monsters.  more magic.
