Do'oont Pit. Warbases 15mm scenery range

If, dearest reader - you zoom down to the very start of this blog.  I must redo that game!

I'm planning on doing a series of games strung together on the flem of Down The Pit.

Could be Yorkshire.  Mars.  Venus.  Dwarves ho-hoing and Orcs an anorcing.  Daleks and bugs mining.  Quar.

To do that I need basic scenery.  I found this range:

https://warbases.co.uk/product-category/buildings/starbase-962-sci-fi/

Here's the Wall.  2 edge sections and a gate.  I originally planned to get this as the edge of my Beach Head Mars game a few years ago--.  A bit fiddly but once you get the picture sorted it's not too bad :

Storage containers.  There's a display on the tower plan.  The rib being around the ends-- :

Dice tower.  Oh boy, no need to be a modeller of which I'm not sir.  There is a guide, but that presumes a level of dexterity I alas, lack.  The bottom gridded walls are NOT strong enough to take weight or damage.  I had to add an (Amozan envelope) liner.  add something to the sections before you assemble:

Other suggestions:

Pendraken's Red Vectors range is well worth a look for ruins and barracks - here's the star.

If you haven't watched the Rani - do so!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v43VOYpCi3o

Blotz.  Here be military buildings.  But there's a lot more!

CD based scenery update. Under the boardwalk.

It's been a while, but - you know.

Way back in   https://unitrecon.blogspot.com/2015/04/cutting-cds-and-basing-walkers-quick.html

Still a CD.  edged black and a thick black wash in the middle to make the shadow and careful white highlights before adding vehicle.

Basing stuff on CD's is common.  I've had this idea brewing for some time, then I was given a small pile of CD's and Hard as Nails.  Perfect.  I had these 28mm Blotz fence bits left as I used the support for Japanese village fencing.  I'd used them before as duck boards in trenches.

A coat of the hard as nails, scrap card across the holes.  Left to dry.  That's the hint, allow to dry!

I used another CD to mark the curves and strong scissors to cot.  I'm sure most of you would be neater.

A bit of time post doctors appointment spent at Entoyment.  More hard as nails, of course.

Note you can still see some of the cardboard - this was not a thick coat.

I made a shell crater.

I found this colour in Neo Wilco's.  I like the cover!

I was going to use my favourite antelope Brown ink on the walkway, but a simple wash has done a good job.  Main advantage of a CD - it doesn't care about getting soaked.

Last process, although I might touch up the odd white spot.  I added a scrape of No More Nails clear.  You can get it on Amazon.  This was the costly bit, about 50p?

Note that by the time I'd finished, the first was already drying.  This stuff has a rather nice, fresh vinegar smell. that went after 20 minutes.

The next morning.  Most had dried, leaving in a window will cure completely.

Uses:  Cratered areas for Quar.  Zenus and Paleo diet marshland causeways.  I'm sure they'll be more.  I played around with some stuff I had at hand, temu clumps and
https://entoyment.co.uk/collections/warpainter-scenics?page=3  rubble and craters.

New Flight Bases, first catch your pterosaur then go to Amazon.

Lovely Pterosaurs  and their riders - but - my old flight bases just aren't up to the job.  I noticed recently that my witches and Dominar Rigel need to upgrade.  Dearest Matt Hay has some I've long admired.  I can either hate from afar, plot my revenge and then take same from his cold hand or, take advice and make my own.  Difficult choice!

Six of the bases have letter beads - and there are 6 unmanned flyers.  These are for Rogue Stars and/or Paleo Diet.

Amazon so here's what I bought:

AHANDMAKER 25 Pcs Acrylic Airplane Model Holders Transparent Stand Display Basements for Dolls Mini Display Holder Circular Flight Base with Peg (30mm)

Mebamce 570pcs 304 S...

Mebamce 570pcs 304 Stainless Steel M...

Qty: 1

Wukong Mini Magnets...

Wukong Mini Magnets 8mm x 3mm Strong...

Qty: 1

The smaller bearings didn't work, not a strong enough grip.  I went to 9mm and they were fine.  But that leaves me with several sizes of smaller--  I can get even smaller magnets for ground level.

Each base has a 2p underneath, for weight and to fit into a movement stand.  Good layer of Hard as Nails (as always)  the rocks bring the balance down.  Past memories of Full Thrust and others - crashing models and bits flying off!

I found these old pill boxes bought for this very reason!  These give near- ground and I'll do grounded - and nests later.

Fairly bland flock.  I want them to look OK but not to detract from the model.

It's one thing to mount a large vehicle, but smaller?  As mentioned above I tried other sized balls but they didn't work.  Not finished, a wisp of  cotton wool to be added with uhu glue- don't use superglue.  The bond is strong enough to allow painting.

Unboxing: Daddy's been to Temu. Unbagging not unboxing!

Temu?  Home of stuff that doesn't make Wish's strident quality standards.  'er in doors like the crap - well buys it, uses it a couple of times then sells it on or the charity shop when wardrobe nears critical mass.

Squares aren't quite an inch.  Material is a stretchy fleece that stretches nicely.  Works OK with some weight on it.  Instant dundeon for those "oh shit" occasions.  See next post for use.

Not the best quality but scream Quar.  Perfect size.  I'll use these as a top up to get free posting.

Like these!  2 of each, remind me of the alien scenery in the Expanse.

Lump with ladder

Love these!  Each lantern is different.  Under 25p an item for scatter terrain.

Yes you can make them, but why bother?

A bit small, but for that mansion garden  with a little stream- good hard cover.

Tons of plants! Perfect for smaller scales, upgrading fences and hedges, gardens and orchards.  Neen troops carrying Birnham wood?

Venus!  Should got more at this silly price.

I took a real punt on these 2, but happy.  This first one is a plant pot (!)  Will fit in well with my Peter Pig and Alternative Armies buildings.  Small hilltop monastery.  The "pot" calls out for a dragon or steampunk device.  Or Yeti's.

Rule Of Thumb.  When looking at toy vehicles, buildings etc,  Compare your thumb to a doorway, having checked the scale of miniatures you use.  Nice detail!  Bit of paint-.

Interesting, not sure how it is printed but it has the crisp finish of an assembled plastic model.  Aize wise it's a bit small.  Perfect for Essex or Peter Pig figures or Alternative Armies Japanese goblins.  I feel I want to add to it, make a nest with a posh bit on top.
