Songs of our Ancestors Scenarios

 


I've had these rules for some time.  When I got them, I had no figures.  Now I have them -.  Apologies, I managed to get a little bit of painting done but not enough. Can Do Better!

The book divides into 3 - you'd almost think it's an Osprey!  You get rules based on a later version of Song of Blades and Heroes.  This covers specific forces, small arms to field artillery.  Bumph on the same including pre-costed specific types that I've used below.

Last section is a wealth of extremely well thought out and varied scenarios.  

We didn't cover them all, but we got 6 in 6 hours.  We used a 24" square board.  Concentrating the action speeds up play.

Scenario Ambushed?  

Crusaders

Q4 C2 Green is-Caerten (officer) Command range Long.  

Green test killed LOS morale test. 2 if gory death 

Shotgun  CV+2 first 2 ranges +1 rd.  Medium. Max 3 medium.

Spread Any within 2 base widths of target.

Axe 

Q3 C3  Veteran Yawdryl (sgt) Leader.  

Vet may attack & shoot.  Command Medium

Bogen assault rifle CV+2 Medium Semi auto.  Move & shoot 1 action.

X6 Q4 C2 Ryfler

Partisans

Veteran Sniper  Q3  C3

Dead eye  +1 aimed shot..,

Hunting rifle.  CV+3 Long.

Sniper scope +1 aimed shot.


I'st game - Crusaders decide to foxtrot ofski.  Partisans run after them yelling "get orf moi land" in a quiet yell.


Game 2 The other result.  Partisans advance.


Yawdyl gets shot attempting to negotiate. Fortunately morale results - no-one really liked him. Unfortunately now no command.




The Crusaders spread out looking for trouble.


The fight gets vicious for a while, but superior weapons and numbers win.


Trouble found.  Sniper takes out 1 but then they come under a hail of fire.


One shot, the rest taken out by assault.



Game 3, proper swapsies. The Crusaders decide to move out in good order.


Partisans watch and wait.


The LMG is sent to the flank.


The partisans shoot and scoot and reload, splitting the Crusaders and wounding 1 killing 1.


The partisans move forward again and shoot effectively.


Crusader then partisan failed activations.


Partisans come to loot the bodies, but lose 1 to the LMG in the process.  If this had been the book partisans split in 2 I think they would have fared worst.

Auto fire   Single attack or burst 1 short of target.  Each extra -1 CV cumulative.


A simple meet & greet I had the Coftyrans and advanced in open order, as I had mostly long range weapons. Matt zoomed through the woods.





"There's Crusaders on the starboard bow!"


"And in front!"


Fire going Bang!



Coftyrans come off worse, mostly due to shotgun.  being pushed back to the wood.


The Crusader flank, lacking cover, takes casualties and joins the main party in cover.


The Coftyrans shoot and retire, making an escape.


Game 2  I advanced the Crusaders in a more-or-less wedge.  1st wedge was the vet and bogen armed.


Using their long range weapons to their advantage, they came on strong.  The Crusaders moved back asking the Officer to kindle assist.  But every time he failed.


Oh look, another fail!  They got on eventually but straight into ready troops.  They take out a few but scattered the Crusaders are defeated.



Scenario brings home the bacon!  We only did this one once but it's a cracklinger!

Both sides have what the other needs, so an exchange has been arranged.



They meet in the middle and the exchange is made.  Everyone's happy and away they go.  The Crusaders wait till one pig n partizan have got off table.  A shot rings out!


The Crusader leader has to move forward in order to get their goodies moving.  Meanstwhile a brawl develops for control of the pig.



The Crusaders surge to the pig.


Only armed with pistols and the close-in streetcleaner, the left hand partisans make a brave move to get in range of the foe.  Those were not the activation dice needed and they're gunned down.  The right hand bunch exchange a few shots and kill one Crusader.  They tried repeatedly to kill the leader with no luck.


The Crusaders get away with the pig and the crate.  Partisans take 50% casualties.

Stable

Set up.  Coftryans in place.  I mount helper with MG so that base counts as 2.


Getting the initiative, Crusaders assault!  They lose 2 vs 5 but they've breached the defenses.


An intense round of shooting, the Coftygans leaders doru smg did damage, levelling the numbers but it was not enough.


50% casualties but a win for the Crusaders.



Game 2. OK, I failed.  I split the 3 long rifles off to the centre to give covering fire whilst taking the rest on an oblique assault.  The dice said no, machine gun wiped out all bar the leader.  End game!


This scenery tile is one of my Seven Samurai set.  This is the view down the road where the bandits attacked.  This is why I mount trees etc. on 2p's.
